- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp dried basil
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt & pepper to taste
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Cook the Sausage: Add Italian sausage and cook until browned (about 5 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
- Sauté the Aromatics: In the same pan, add diced onions and cook until soft (about 3 minutes). Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Simmer the Sauce: Add diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Combine & Serve: Slice the sausage and return it to the pan. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Garnish & Enjoy: Top with Parmesan and fresh parsley. Serve with pasta, bread, or as-is!
